Course Description

The following topics will be covered during this event:

1. Recent Tax Court Cases

Speaker: Amit Ummat, LL.B, LL.M of Ummat Tax Law

2. Cryptocurrency - Legal Pitfalls, Tax Treatment and Volatility in the Market

Speaker: Giles Dixon, CCI, CBP of Grant Thornton

This event will be held at Scottish Rite (4 Queen St S, Hamilton, ON L8P 3R3).  The structure of the event is as follows:

  • Registration/cocktails – 5:15 p.m. (drink ticket included with registration)
  • Dinner – 6:00 p.m. (sit down)
  • Presentation(s) – 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.

The cost of the seminar and dinner is $85 (+tax), which you can pay by any credit card. You will earn 3.0 hours of PD credits when you attend a session. We are pleased to offer an easy, inexpensive and enjoyable way to meet your PD requirements. 

If you can't make the event, your registration fee entitles you to unlimited access to the event webinar that will be posted shortly after the event and, of course, the PD certificate from listening to the webinar.  If you prefer a refund, please ensure that you give us at least 48 hours notice.

Amit has over a decade of experience resolving a wide range of corporate and international tax disputes. He is involved in all aspects of tax controversy management, including assisting during tax audits; answering demands for production of documents to various tax authorities; asserting privilege over documents and communications; representing taxpayers at all levels of Court; negotiating favorable settlements; preparing taxpayer relief submissions; and competent authority involvement to negotiate tax relief in international tax disputes. Amit previously served as Tax Counsel with the Department of Justice Canada where he obtained extensive tax litigation experience, regularly appearing before the Tax Court of Canada, Federal Court of Canada, Federal Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada.
