About the Instructor(s)
As former Chief Justice of the Tax Court of Canada, the Honourable Donald G.H. Bowman has extensive experience in resolving tax disputes. Mr. Bowman has made significant contributions to Canadian tax law having spent his entire legal career as a tax litigator. He joined the Federal Department of Justice – Tax Litigation Section soon after his call to the Ontario Bar, and was appointed Director in 1968. Mr. Bowman joined the law firm of Stikeman, Elliott, Robarts & Bowman in 1971, and was a partner there until his appointment as a Judge to the Tax Court of Canada in 1991. Mr. Bowman was appointed Associate Chief Judge in February 2000, Associate Chief Justice in July 2003, and Chief Justice in February 2005. Mr. Bowman also is former counsel to Dentons’ National Tax Group, and he continues to share his expertise with numerous firms as a mentor and adviser.
Pascal D'Souza is a financial advisor with Edward Jones, specializing in high net worth individuals and small business clientele. He combines years of institutional investment experience with his accounting background. His institutional investment experience includes over 10 years with the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan and The Carlyle Group. His portfolio management experience is supported by his Chartered Financial Analyst designation. Estate planning for small business owners has been critical in the transfer of wealth process, between generations. He has years of experience working with small businesses to enhance value, relying on his Chartered Business Valuation designation.
His Chartered Professional Accountant designation allows him to co-ordinate his financial clientele with accounting practitioners to assist with tax planning and resolve related accounting matters.
Todd specializes in the effective implementation of corporate reorganization strategies for CCPCs across Canada. In addition to being a tax educator and lecturer, Todd also assists corporations and individuals with matters involving tax dispute resolution with the CRA.
In Keith’s role, he is a key resource to CI sales and marketing teams on estate planning and other general wealth planning topics.
Prior to joining CI in 2015, Keith was an executive at one of the Big Five Canadian banks, where he worked in a variety of senior roles in risk and estate and trust management within the Private Client Group, which provides investment, banking, estate planning and trust administration to high net worth Canadians. While with the bank, Keith spent 17 years in the estate and trust area, gaining experience in trust and estate administration and estate planning. Prior to joining the bank, Keith was in the private practice of law, where he worked in the estate administration, estate litigation and estate planning field.
Keith received a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from University of Waterloo in 1984, a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from University of Toronto in 1987 and received the Trust and Estate Practitioner designation in 2003. Outside of the office Keith volunteers as a Director with the United Way of Perth-Huron. He and his wife Chris enjoy spending time with their two adult children, their daughter-in-law and their two grandsons.
